It depends. It sounds like you used the wrong sequence of steps to enter your information. My suggestion is to go to your forms mode and delete all of your 1099-NEC and schedule C forms to begin again with a clean copy. If there is a Schedule SE, delete that as well. Once you delete these forms, here is the correct sequence of steps to perform to get you back on the right track in your CD/Download product.
- Open Turbo Tax. Stay in the step-by-step interview mode.
- Select Business>business income and expenses>choose what I work on.
- Business income and Expenses>profit and loss from business>start
- The next few screens are questions asking you about your business. Here is where you build your business profile.
- Once your profile is built, then you will reach a screen simply entitled your business.
- Next go to business>business income>
- Next you will see 1099-NEC. This should be the only place you should report this. After the 1099-NEC is reported, you will go back to the your business screen, here you can start reporting your business expenses. As you are entering this information, the program is creating a Schedule C with all of this information being included.
- By entering information like the way you did in the beginning, you created a 1099-NEC and a Schedule C with no links to either one. The method I described will link both.
