These details will be captured while completing your Schedule C. As you continue to answer the questions, it will provide you with the opportunity to change from the simplified method to the actual expenses method. This can be deducted only if you are a licensed daycare provider.
To begin in the Schedule C expense interview, select Home office as an expense and Continue and Yes.
- Identify that the space was used for another line of work as well as the Day Care.
- Follow through the prompts. TurboTax will ask you how big the entire home was.
- Next, How many square feet were the areas of the home you used for daycare work? Here, enter the portion used exclusively as an office and enter the square footage used for the day care itself and Continue.
- There is a What counts as an area? learn more link if you are not certain if some areas, should be excluded. The example: the day care used the entire home, except the master bedroom. So, this square footage was subtracted.
- How often did you use their home for daycare work in 2020? Enter the amount of time as described on this screen and Continue.
- Next, TurboTax will calculate the $5/sq. ft. simplified method. If your actual expenses were more, select No, I want to take actual expenses and Continue through the rest of the prompts.
