"Active Duty" and "Reserve Component" are indeed different.  However, there are certain aspects of Reserve duty which are not deployments, but are considered active duty service for purposes of pay, benefits, and taxation.  The most obvious is the (typically) 2-week annual training period.  Your state may allow deduction of this pay from your Federal Adjusted Gross Income.  For example see page 11 of <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://dor.mo.gov/forms/Military%20Reference%20Guide.pdf">https://dor.mo.gov/forms/Military%20Refer...>.
