Perhaps you were efiling your returns. When you efile them, TurboTax does that for you. After you hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button, an efile is sent to the IRS and state. You get two emails back. The first one says your return has been transmitted. The second one says whether it was accepted or rejected.
If you didn't get any of those emails then you didn't follow the process all the way through to efile your return.
