First of all, log into your turbo tax return and go to federal>wages and income>all income>Self Employment>Self-employment income and expenses>Select revisit.
See if you can delete Schedule C business information that may have populated from last year in your return. If so, do the following steps to enter your 1099 Misc with income reported in Box 3.
- Go to federal>wages and income>all income>other common income>Form 1099-MISC>start
- ENTER 1099 misc, after this is entered the program will ask you questions about this income
- Continue through the questions and it will ask you if you had the intent to make money. On this you will say "No
This should prevent Turbo tax from trying to report his as Self-Employment income.
