As far as the IRS is concerned, if you are self-employed you do "in fact" own and run your own business. All of your self-employment income is reported on SCH C as a part of your personal 1040 tax return. Self-employment income is any and all income paid to you in cash, as well as that income reported to you on a 1099-MISC in box 7.
