Was your compensation listed in Box 7 nonemployee compensation? If so, the IRS considers this self-employment income and you are a 'business', even if you don't regard yourself as such. You can use your own name as your business name. You do not use the payer's name as your business name.

The below listed versions will support a 1099-MISC. Home & Business will support most every small business. The lesser versions will support a simple schedule C for self-employment, and some minor expenses, such as phone, vehicle, and other expenses of $100 or less. If your expenses are greater than that, Home & Business is the way to go.

You can start out in Deluxe online, and upgrade as you go if you need to. If you do, when you enter your 1099-MISC, do not do it in the Business Items section. That will trigger an upgrade automatically. Instead, select My Account>Tools>Topic search. Type 1099misc in the search, then select GO. This will trigger the questions for a simple schedule C.
