How much detail do I need to add in the Description & Amount form for expenses and other items?

TurboTax often gives me a small form in which I can add multiple line items as a description and amount. How much detail do I need enter? I can imagine three different ways to do this. For example, with business travel expenses:

  • Enter each flight, hotel and car rental on a new line.
  • Enter a total for each category - for example, one line for all flight expenses.
  • Enter just a grand total of all business travel expenses.

I do have documentation for every one of these items. I want to avoid entering every one separately if I can.
