If, on your 2023 1040 line 36 you indicated that you wanted to apply your overpayment to 2024, you have an overpayment carryover to 2024. Here is how you can indicate you have a 2023 federal overpayment carryover to 2024 in TurboTax Online:
- Navigate to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Estimates and Other Taxes Paid > Start or Revisit
- On the Income Taxes Paid screen, choose 2023 Refund Applied to 2024 federal taxes > Start or Revisit
- Enter the amount
