You should be able to change the beginning and ending mileage by editing the vehicle in question. Be sure that the beginning mileage number matches the ending number from last year. Then enter your ending mileage for this year. The difference will be the miles used with the standard mileage rate to calculate your vehicle expense for the year.
To find this, go to your business expenses list and edit "Vehicle Expense" (or Vehicle, or Cars, Truck, and other vehicles - depending on your version of TurboTax). Edit the vehicle you need to work on.
- Continue through the interview until you come to the page "How do you want to enter your mileage..."
- Check the box for "I'll enter my beginning and ending odometer readings."
- The top box is beginning reading (ending mileage from last year); the box under that is the reading for the end of this tax year.
- Verify the error message is gone.
- Continue back to the list of vehicles.
