To enter a 1099-NEC with a TIN follow these steps:
Form 1099-NEC specifically reports Nonemployee Compensation, which you may have gotten in previous years on a 1099-MISC. So, if you worked as a freelancer or contractor last year, you probably got a 1099-NEC reporting how much money you were paid in box 1.
To enter your Form 1099-NEC in TurboTax:
- Open or continue your return - be sure you are logged in for link to work:
- Navigate to 1099-NEC:
- TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to 1099-NEC.
- Select the pencil icon next to the 1099-NEC with the TIN to edit it.
- Continue through until you come to the question:
- "How is your payer's federal ID number formatted?"
Choose the format "xxx-xx-xxxx" (like a Social Security number). - This should allow you to enter a TIN.
- "How is your payer's federal ID number formatted?"
