I do not believe I ever had files ending in .tax2023 for either the 2023 1065 or the 1041 tax returns that were completed in the 2023 Business program. I have done a search of all my files and only my personal 1040 return shows up with a file ending in .tax2023.
When I downloaded the 2024 TT Business on my laptop, it asked which return I wanted to start and gave me both the 1065 and 1041 return options from 2023. I did not notice if either file ended in .tax2023. I selected the 1065 option, which is due in March 2025, and all of the applicable information from my 2023 return was downloaded to the 2024 return. I completed and successfully submitted my 2024 1065 federal tax return.
When I attempted to start my 2024 1041 tax return, my 2024 TT Business program no longer gives me the 1041 return options from 2023. In my opinion, the issue with the file or software corruption occurred when I agreed to update the 2023 TT Business when I opened it. In my opinion, if I had not updated the 2023 Business, I would have been given the 1041 return option from my 2023 return and all of the applicable information from my 2023 return would have been downloaded to the 2024 return.
Is it possible the 2025 update of the 2023 Business somehow deleted the files ending in .tax2023 for both the 2023 1065 and 1041 files? That doesn't seem possible but...
