@jeff7 So you're saying you can only verify that when you put a 0 on line 7 it includes the Form 8881 to print, but you can't confirm you can then e-file? It seemed like when other people responded after that idea was posted in this thread, they were saying they could finally e-file. However I'm not sure anyone said it that explicitly. They said things like that their return was finally "accepted'. So I assumed that meant they were able to e-file.
I'm now extremely confused why we have people who appear to have said doing this allowed them to e-file long ago, yet @PatriciaV is saying in the other thread that they have no certainty that you can file this way. Do you plan to try e-filing soon? Or are you printing and mailing yours and that's why you can't test whether it e-files?
Update: Here @rn13 is saying that he tried this trick and yes it includes Form 8881 in the return but then says the form is not ready/finalized? This is incredibly maddening after all the time TurboTax has had to fix this. I hope more people can test this and post if they're able to make this e-file and go through.
Can @calbear @alex_k_21 or @drenader weigh in here with whether they were able to actually e-file?
