The reply is a bit too late as we had to file by the 15th. We were able to finally figure out how TurboTax was making the calculation that it was but we still have no clue where it got its numbers from. Our 2022 return shows nothing in the personal property taxes on schedule A - even though there was a very clear input from me for an amount. A wonderful TurboTax employee worked with us for several hours and she could not explain why that line is left blank in 2022. In 2023, Turbotax is now using my 2023 personal property values to determine if my 2022 refund was taxable. When we replaced TurboTax's value for the 2023 personal property taxes with the blank amount as was filed by Turbotax in 2022, we were then able to come up to the same value as using the IRS 1040 instructions. The wonderful employee who worked with us for many hours could not explain why this was. Even though it cost us more in taxes, we felt we had to go with the numbers that were filed in 2022.
