Deductions & credits
If this is an unreimbursed Job-Related Expense it can be deductible on your return. This type of deduction is calculated with Form 2106 to be Itemized in Schedule A. Please keep in mind that if the sum of itemized deductions in Schedule A does not exceed the amount of your Standard Deduction, Schedule A will not be beneficial to your return. Additionally, this type of deduction (Miscellaneous) is limited by the 2% of AGI rule. This rule states that only the amount of Miscellaneous Deductions that exceed 2% of your AGI are deductible on Schedule A.
