My ex and I each claim one of our two children on our taxes, but we split all costs and custody equally. How can I write off what I spend on child care for each child?
We share joint custody, so the kids spend an equal amount of time with each of us, but the younger one (the one I claim) had day care costs for the first part of the year, then after school care after the summer. The older one (claimed by her mother) had after school care for the year as well as summer camp care. We split those costs evenly. How can we each deduct what we spent for each child?
