Deductions & credits
Since you do not have a mortgage, there is no need to go into the Mortgage Interest, Refinancing, and Insurance section of the Your Home deductions. If you've started in the Mortgage Interest section, you can delete any information using the following steps:
- Click on the Start/Update button next to Mortgage Interest, Refinancing, and Insurance.
- You will see the Mortgage deduction summary. Click Delete (the trashcan) next to the entry.
Since you don't have a mortgage, enter your real estate taxes in the separate property tax section by following these steps:
- Click on Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits.
- In the Your Home section, click on the Start/Revisit box next to Property (Real Estate) Taxes.
- On the screen, Did you pay property or real estate taxes in 2019, click the Yes box.
- On the screen, Enter any additional property tax you paid in 2019, enter your taxes and click Continue.
