In order to add the charitable donation you forgot to enter, you will need to wait to see if the e-filed return was accepted or rejected.
If the e-filed return was rejected, you
can fix the error and add the charitable contribution, then re-transmit your
return. Go back into TurboTax and continue your
return. The program will show you the errors and have you correct
and re-submit.
If the e-filed return was accepted, you
will need to file an amended return. Here are the steps to
amend your 2015 tax return. Also, you cannot e-file an amended return, you must mail it.
In TurboTax - sign-in to (TurboTax
Online) or open (TurboTax Cd/Download/Desktop) your 2015
return.
- Type “amend” in the search bar and hit
enter
- Click on “Jump to amend” (see image below)
- This will bring you to the “We’ll help you change (amend)
your return” screen (see image below)
- Click “Continue” and answer the questions
