Deductions & credits
Deduct those
as part of your business expenses along with the mileage you drove. If you
didn't keep track of the mileage or the amounts Uber withheld (commissions
etc), look on the 2015 Tax Information link on the payments page of your Uber
driver account. There is a summary sheet linked at the bottom and it shows the
fees they took out as well as the mileage for the trips (your mileage may
actually be more as you drove around waiting for a passenger.)
To enter these expenses into TurboTax Home & Business:
- Click the Business tab at the top
- I'll choose what I work on
- In the first section, next to "Profit or Loss from Business", click Start or Update
- Follow the interview screens. You should arrive at screen titled "Your Business"
- In the section titled "Business Expenses", you have the option of entering Business Vehicle Expenses.
- To enter the fees Uber charged you for deduction, go in to the "Other Common Business Expenses" section by clicking Start or Update
- On the next screen, scroll down and next to "Other Miscellaneous Expenses", click Start or Update
- You may manually enter these expenses with a brief description.
To enter your self-employment income in Home & Business:
- Start under the Business tab
- Business Income and Expenses
- Profit or Loss from Business
- Your Business (click Edit to open Business summary page)
- Business Income
- General Income to enter 1099-K
