I have a regular job and a home office for a different job. Can I deduct miles for my trip from the regular job back to the home office?
I commute 43 miles one way every day for a regular job. I am also self employed with a home office. Its my practice to leave the regular job, drive to my home office, and put in a couple of hours at the home office for the self employed job.
Can I deduct the miles on the trip from the regular job to the home office?
I have an attorney (regular job) in the family who also has a farm (self employment) on which his home is located. It was his understanding he could not deduct the commute for his trip to work but he could deduct the miles for the trip back to the farm. It was his assertion that I could also deduct the miles for the trip from my regular job to my home office.
