Can I claim a deduction for improvements made to my existing home that add to energy efficiency. Part of an addition project, but additional insulation in attic and craw

Insulation in attic and crawl space added to old section of the home.  Since part of an addition (which would be maybe considered new construction?), can I deduct a portion that would apply to the existing building.
