Yes, if the items he purchased meet the requirements for job-related expenses you can take a deduction for them. However, job-related expenses are only deductible in excess of 2% of your AGI in order to be deductible and you must itemize instead of taking the standard deduction.
Also, to report his wages that you did not receive a W-2 for, you will need to enter it by doing the following:
- Click Federal
- Income and Expenses
- Scroll down, click Show More next to Less Common Income
- Click Start next to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
- Start next to Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099
