Here are the steps to enter sales
tax:
While signed into your TurboTax account,
- Type sales tax in Search (upper right of program) and
click the Jump to sales tax link
- Select Continue with Sales Tax (if shown)
- Select Easy Guide
- Continue to follow the TurboTax prompts until you come to Enter Major Purchases. This is where you will enter the sales tax on your vehicle purchase.
Sales tax is an
itemized deduction. On your tax return,
you will have the option of deducting the greater of your sales tax or your
state and local income taxes (if any), whichever is higher. The TurboTax process will suggest
one or the other as you prepare your return.
