I paid cobra health insurance premium all year in 2017. My company eliminated my position in 2016 and provide coverage to me up to 12.31.2016. I was unemployed until September. All year I collected severance & pension payments. My new employer gave me an allotment of $1500 towards insurance but I still paid $5900. out of my pocket Can I deduct this under federal and state (Wisconsin)? I saw a note for federal that I couldn't claim medical (cobra premium amt doesn't include out of pocket medical costs I also paid) only if it didn't exceeded $11,100. Is that correct (I understand limit may differ by individual based on earnings)? Is there a limit for state of WI also? Appreciate your help with this. If I can deduct, what is it called under federal forms & what is it called under state forms?
