Yes, they can be deducted as a medical expense as long as you are paying for them through personal funds or loans. You cannot claim an expense for what is covered by insurance.
Even though you may claim this (and other) medical expenses, bear in mind that it takes a significant amount of medical expenses to see an impact on your return. First, you must have total medical expenses greater than 10% of your AGI in order for the medical expenses to start being noticeable deductions on the tax return, and then you have to be able to itemize your deductions.
