Deductions & credits
The Illinois Property Tax Credit is a nonrefundable credit, which means it can reduce your IL tax liability to zero but cannot result in a refund of any excess credit amount.
Follow these steps in TurboTax Online to enter information in the Illinois tax return organizer to calculate the property tax credit:
1. Go to the screen for IL Credits and Taxes and scroll down to Property Tax Credit and Start/Revisit
2. Answer the questions about property tax you paid and enter the property information
3, Enter any property tax amounts that were not on your residence or were deducted elsewhere on your IL return
4. Your property tax credit will be calculated on the next screen.
The credit will be on Schedule ICR - Section A, Line 5.
This amount will carry to Sch ICR, Line 13 (Total Nonrefundable Credits), which will carry to Form IL-1040, Line 16.
Here is information from the Illinois Department of Revenue about the Property Tax Credit.
