Deductions & credits

Shelley, I deleted everything in my Online test (we usually use Desktop because we can see the forms), and I started to re-add stuff. I had tried in my usual Online test to duplicate your issue, as well as my Lead, and we got results different from yours. So I did the HSA Reset to delete all HSA data in the test (like I told you), and I started the test anew.

When I got to the HSA interview, I was surprised to see that "Let's enter Shelley's HSA contributions" was immediately after "What type of HDHP coverage did Blank have during 2025?"

To my astonishment, I reproduced something similar to what you saw...a missing screen. TurboTax never asked for your spouse's HSA contributions. By chance, were you the primary taxpayer (making you first?) There is nothing wrong with that, but in my test, Shelley is the spouse.

And if you look at the list of screens below, you will see that the husband's "Let's enter [name] HSA contributions" is missing...this is why I asked if you were the primary taxpayer.

What I saw:

  • Select the health-related accounts you had in 2025 (beginning of HSA interview)
  • Did you use your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for anything in 2025? (no, for the test)
  • Was (your husband) covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2025? (yes)
  • Do any of these situations apply to (your husband)? (no)
  • What type of HDHP coverage did (your husband) have during 2025? (Family plan all year)
  • Let's enter Shelley's HSA contributions (surprise to me)
  • Was Shelley covered by a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) in 2025? (yes)
  • Do any of these situations apply to Shelley? (no)
  • What type of HDHP coverage did Shelley have during 2025? (Family plan all year)
  • Your HSA Summary

Deduction for Shelley - $355!

OK, Shelley, this is what I need to make an investigation. In all of software, to address an issue, you have to be able to reproduce the issue, and I have been unable to until now.

Thanks for sticking with me.
