Standard Deduction for Married Filing Jointly is 31,500.
Add 1,600 for each spouse that is 65 or blind
OR
Add 3,200 for each spouse that is 65 and blind
After that there may the Senior Additional Deduction of 6,000 each spouse over 65.
The TurboTax program makes this calculation for the additional senior deduction automatically and lists the “Additional Deduction” on the new Schedule 1-A which flows to your 1040 line 13b.
It is NOT added to your Standard Deduction.
