Deductions & credits

  1. My employer reimburses me for 100% of the Marketplace health insurance premiums, and this reimbursement comes in two different pieces:
    • Through a QSEHRA plan (up to the maximum reimbursement allowed through this plan); and
    • The reminder is reimbursed through my paychecks (this is therefore effectively salary and is taxable).

HOWEVER, if I do reduce column B by the amount of my employer’s reimbursements to me (which were 100% of the premiums paid), then column B becomes zero, and TurboTax will not allow me to proceed with column B as zero.

I know this original post is from a few months ago, but maybe this will help you for next year:

First, you need to determine if QSEHRA is "affordable" or not.  I am not sure if TurboTax guides you for the definition of "affordable" or not, but if it doesn't, then you'll need to read the IRS Publication 974 (page 16 in the 2024 version).

If it *IS* affordable, no Premium Tax Credit is allowed.  Just enter your 1095-A and enter 0.01 for column B (the SLCSP).  The 0.01 is effectively zero, but will allow it to be e-filed.

If it is NOT "affordable", then you manually subtract the QSEHRA amounts.  Do NOT subtract the amount that was added to your taxable income.  Because it is taxable income to you, it is NOT treated as being reimbursed (at least for this purpose ... although your employer want to go to an expert about that because it may not be allowable the way they are doing it), so you don't subtract that amount.
