Subject: TurboTax Not Acknowledging IRS Disaster Relief Extension for Tennessee Residents
Hi TurboTax team,
I live in Tennessee, where all 95 counties have been designated by FEMA under disaster declaration #3625-EM. According to IRS Notice IR-2025-47, all residents and businesses in the state automatically qualify for a tax filing and payment extension until November 3, 2025, regardless of whether they were personally affected by the storms.
Despite this, TurboTax continues to send urgent reminders and strongly encourages me to file and pay now, as though the April 15 deadline still applies. There’s no clear option in the software to acknowledge this automatic extension, and no place to enter the FEMA declaration number. This is confusing and concerning, especially for users who aren’t aware of their legal rights under IRS relief.
It feels like the platform’s business model is built around urgency—pushing people to file early and pay full price—even when the IRS explicitly allows more time. Given the lack of proper functionality and communication around this issue, I think it would be fair and appreciated if TurboTax waived my filing fee this year. Sing these notifications contradictory to the federal government creates a fair amount of stress and confusion.
Thanks for your help,
