Deductions & credits

Are you saying that you filed an amendment because you only made an IRA contribution of $6,300? Please clarify.

You don't need to send anything to the IRS proving that you made an IRA contribution.  You should receive Form 5498 -IRA Contribution Form by early June, which reports your contribution to the IRS.

  • Form 5498: IRA Contributions Information reports to the IRS your IRA contributions for the year along with other information about your IRA account.
  • Your IRA custodian—not you—is required to file this form with the IRS, usually by May 31.
  • You won't find this form in TurboTax, nor will you file it with your tax return. The copy you receive in the mail is for your records.

Refer to the TurboTax article What Is IRS Form 5498: IRA Contributions Information?
