Also, There is also a separate issue that causes the return to be blocked from e-filing if the noncash contributions on Form 8283 hit the $5,000 threshold.
Starting in tax year 2024, the IRS has indicated that if Form 8283 has a noncash donation where the donee name is listed and the appraised value is $5,000 or more, then the return must be mailed in with an acknowledgment from the donee. See this help article. IRS Reject F8283-042 will appear and the return will not be accepted for e-filing.
In my experience, the fact that the 8283 doesn't come over with the e-file for donations of less than $5,000, where an appraisal is not required, has not led to IRS issuing notices requesting it. The form should be retained as a supporting worksheet in case of an audit.
