Deductions & credits
You can indicate that you rolled over an HSA. This will ensure you are not taxed on the amount of "distribution" that was not spent on medical expenses.
Here is how to report this in TurboTax Online:
- Click on Federal Taxes, Wages & Income, scroll down to Less Common Income
- Choose "revisit" 1099-SA, HSA, MSA
- You will see a page titled "Your HSA Summary" which will show any 1099-SA forms already entered.
- Choose Edit, Continue
- You'll now see a screen that says "Here's what we have so far"
- If the 1099-SA you rolled over was already entered, select edit; otherwise choose to add the 1099-SA.
- Continue until you arrive at the screen that asks Did you spend your HSA money on medical expenses only? Select No, I didn't. Answer the following question based on what you did with the total distribution (either rolled over all of it, or spent some on medical expenses and rolled over the rest)
