I agree with Hal_Al, but don't forget that the American Opportunity Credit can only be claimed a total of 4 times for you (including times when you claimed it for yourself and when your parents claimed it for you while you were there dependent). If it has already been claimed 4 times, you won't qualify for the credit even though your college does not consider you as having completed four years of college.
