Deductions & credits
You can no longer claim a casualty loss (miscellaneous deduction) as an itemized deduction on your federal tax return that isn't a federal disaster. This change is a part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2018. Some states may allow miscellaneous deductions.
You can visit your state’s Department of Revenue for more information. Review the TurboTax article How do I contact my state's Department of Revenue? for more information.
