Deductions & credits
Commuting to a primary place of work or school is not deductible.
Under current law, employee business expenses are not deductible for most employees on the Federal tax return. Some states still allow these expenses as a deduction, typically only to the extent they exceed 2% of Adjusted Gross Income. See this article for more information.
If you were already an employee and had temporary mileage to another location for training, check to see if reimbursement is available from the department.
See this IRS webpage for more information about qualified education expenses for degree or other recognized credential programs. Transportation expenses are not qualified education expenses.
