They don't make any money by giving away their products, and there is no reason that they should give it away. Offering a very restricted version of the product for free is a marketing strategy.
At this point nobody expecting free product from TurboTax. Everybody has to obey TurboTax terms if they want to do business with them. It is free not to file with TurboTax. And price is set if they want to file via TurboTax.
The conflict is here; We can still file via free version of TurboTax, if we don't show any educator expense, also we can file the same tax in paid version of turbo tax to be able to show educator expense. TurboTax using tax tools to earn peoples business by using government's tax obligations. This is indirect tax fraud.
If you cant use your paid tools to pay less tax to governments you should not be able use it for tax deductions either. Those deductions directly manipulating the exchanged numbers between government and taxpayers.
Nobody expecting free products from TurboTax. But also your marketin strategy can not be a part of tax deduction tools. You should make your software and set your price. "It is this much money for this service also it is free for not to use it" This should be the ethical and legal way of oing tax business.
