The tax ID for a childcare can be either an EIN or a SSN. An EIN is an Employer Identification Number, which is the number must companies have for tax purposes, it also has nine digits but it is divided differently XX-XXXXXXX. Most childcare centers will have an EIN, unless they are a home daycare, in this case the person might give you their social security number.
