Deductions & credits
"Allowed $6,500"? Where did you get this contribution limit from? Did you have an HDHP policy for only part of a year?
If you have a Self-only HDHP policy, your annual HSA contribution limit is $3,850; if you have a Family HDHP policy, then your limit - to be shared with you and your spouse, is $7,750. If you are 55+, then you can add $1,000 to the annual limit.
So please tell me the following:
1. The type of HDHP policy that you had in 2023
2. How many months you had it.
3. Did you have a carryover of excess HSA contributions from 2022?
4. Did you change your coverage during the year (like from Self to Family, or from Family to Medicare)?
5. Are you 55+?
