Deductions & credits

If you don’t rent your property to make a profit, you can’t deduct rental expenses in excess of the amount of your rental income.

Real estate taxes (property taxes) for third home get reported on Schedule A.

Click on Federal tab > Deductions & Credits > Property (Real Estate) Taxes > Edit/Add

Keep in mind: You can deduct state and local tax (SALT) of up to $10,000 on your federal tax return. These taxes include:

  • State and local income taxes
  • General sales tax
  • State and local real estate taxes
  • State and local personal property taxes
