Deductions & credits
Hi @TurboTax people,
To make it less confusing, could you please clearly state that the old way of filing tax-exempt earnings for Notice 2014-17 no longer applies in TurboTax 2022 because of tax changes for 2022. IRS allows now for tax-exempt earnings for Notice 2014-17 to be qualified as income for the purpose of receiving Tax Income Credit.
Please also provide clear guidelines for how to report it in TurboTax 2022 if 1) you received W2 and Box "1" is blank, 2) you received W2 and Box 1 is not blank, 3) you received 1099 form.
So far I see different instructions from TurboTax on the subject for the scenario when you receive W2 form and Box "1" is blank.
Some instructions say that you need enter W2 as it is with Box "1" blank ,then check Medicare Waiver Payments check box on the next screen. But if I leave Box "1" blank and check the check box, Turbo Tax does not allow e-filing and I have to file taxes by Mail.
Other instructions say that you need to enter amount from Box "3" into Box "1" if you received W2 with Box "1" blank, then check the check box. Then go to Deductions & Credits>Income Tax Credit and claim this amount for the credit. If you do it in this way, Turbotax allows e-filing.
Please share clear and specific instructions how to file tax-exempt earnings for Notice 2014-17 for the above scenarios when a caregiver permanently lives with someone who receives the care.
Thanks.
