Deductions & credits
I am FED UP with turbo taxes changes. I had no problem filing taxes from abroad using turbo tax from 2006-2010 and then from 2014-2020.
I HAVE a U.S. bank account. I HAVE a U.S. credit card with US billing address (and foreign residence address- my US banks know where I live I’m not going to LIE to them and pretend I am in the US)
Turbo Tax is now no longer accepting this work around. They process my payment and then immediately refund it and pretend there is an issue with my credit card. It is ridiculous, Netflix has no problem charging my US credit card EVERY month in $ for my US Netflix subscription. I order off US businesses ALL the time as well as using this card all over the world. The toll booths in FRANCE had no issue scanning my US credit card contactlessly on their toll roads. Yet this same US card with US address is not good enough for turbo tax. It has nothing to do with preventing fraud and everything to do with shedding all their long time expat customers but in an underhand way.
The issue is all on Turbo Tax end where my credit card US billing address does NOT match my 1040 where I live abroad address!
And yet they still advertise that they can do taxes for US expats. NO YOU CANT. Not for a few years now and I am sick of it. I have used TurboTax for over twenty years since e-filing was first started and their product worse than how it was.
Unlike prior years, I cannot contact them to complain.
I dial their 1-800#s and it doesn’t go through, I get assured on chat someone will call me and they never do. I suspect they cannot call me as you have to have a US phone number for the chat bot to accept it. There is NO OTHER means to contact Turbo Tax AT ALL.
