Medical Travel Deduction for multiple days
Had to go to the hospital over several days for various tests and doctor meetings.
What can be deducted in the following scenario?
Scenario:
Day One: Travel from Home to Hospital (200 miles one way) for consultation with Doctor and then traveled to a family member's house (50 miles) to stay overnight.
Day Two: From the family member's house went back to the hospital to get treatment (50 miles). Traveled back to family member's house to stay overnight (50 miles).
Day Three: Again, had to go from Family Member's house back for another treatment (50 miles). And then traveled back to family member's house to stay overnight (50 miles).
Day Four: From Family member's house to back Home (220 miles).
Questions:
Mileage: What mileage can be used for deductions?
Lodging: We would stay at a hotel if we didn't have a family member willing to give us lodging, can staying at the family member's house be the same as amount ($100/night for 2 people) as a hotel? Or do we need hotel receipts?
Thanks for your feedback.
