Deductions & credits
Yes, you can, as personal property taxes.
To enter personal property tax information in TurboTax Online:
- Open TurboTax Online
- Select Tax Home in the left pane
- On the Hi, let's keep working on your taxes! screen, select the dropdown on the right side of the Deductions & Credits box, then select Start, Continue, or Pick up where you left off
- On the Your tax breaks page, scroll down and select the dropdown to the right of Cars and Other Things You Own
- Select Start or Revisit to the right of Personal Property Taxes
- Answer Yes on the Did you pay personal property taxes in 2023? page
- Provide all relevant information requested in the interview
Do not enter vehicle registration fees here. They're entered as Car Registration Fees in the Cars and Other Things You Own section.
Also, don't confuse real estate tax (commonly called "property tax") with personal property tax. Personal property tax is imposed on movable things such as mobile homes, RVs, boats and other vehicles, while real estate "property" tax is imposed on immovable assets such as houses and land. Real estate tax is entered in a different place in the program.
Please see the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter my personal property tax? for entry instructions for TurboTax Desktop, and an alternate entry method for TurboTax Online.
