Deductions & credits
There you go, I went back into the location and clicked on that blue link "standard deduction" and see it there. I missed that in the step by step and was looking through the forms in the View Mode and could not find it anywhere. That is the information I needed without all the other remarks.
Here is your snitty cocky remark - patronizing - gaslighting - what other words are there
"detailed computation of the standard deduction is really not needed to be explained ... you use a program to compute your return so let it do it's job. "
Who are you to tell me what detail in my return I need and understanding of my return I need and where all the numbers come from and where they go on all the forms that I want to know. I use a program to assist me in the return. It computes and does what it does with the numbers I input. It is up to the person that has to Sign their Name to that return to totally understand what is going on with the return. Where the numbers go on the return, and what forms those numbers flow to. If you don't understand then you get into trouble. You cannot just let a 'program' do everything for you and totally not understand anything that program is doing.
So since it is MY RETURN, I control the program the program is my TOOL and I use it to complete my return. But I WILL know everything that return has on it and am responsible for it in it's entirety. I WILL know where every number comes from and onto what other forms those numbers flow to. So Don't tell me to "let the program do it's job and there is no need to explain"
Why should anyone have to ask a question on this community. Just fill in your numbers and whatever the program pops out don't question it, don't look at it, just let it do it's thing and no problem. No need for this community or to ask any questions at all. When you have no idea what you are signing and can't answer the IRS when they send a letter, which my return is much more complicated than a basic 1040, then what do I tell them, Turbo Tax did the return - I just signed it. I just let the program do it's job, now you, the IRS want me to explain, but I can't explain, because I don't know what the program did or how this return functions. IRS - you better figure it out and tell us what you did.
The most ignorant statement a turbo tax representative can tell someone using the program.
"the fact that it doesn't give you the amounts in a chart format like the IRS does is really nit picking on your part IMHO. "
I did not need a chart format. I just wanted somewhere to show me what it was. As I said - the standard deduction worksheet in my return only showed the 25,900 and I wanted to find where the rest was listed on some form/worksheet.
There is not a worksheet that I can find with the total amount of the deduction on it, and I am not/nor did I ever request a chart format like the IRS does. The chart the IRS gives is not until printing of the 1040SR form Page 4 which is what started this entire question in the first place of why it was there and if it needed to be printed. That "chart" can also be found in the "instruction manual". The Instruction manual ONLY lists $1400 each on the
Standard Deduction Worksheet for Dependents—Line 12.
That location in the instructions actually has:
b. | If born before January 2, 1958, or blind, multiply the number on line 1 by $1,400 ($1,750 if single or head of household) |
It is the only place so far in the 113 page instructions where they actually show the $1400 to multiply by. AND I don't have dependents so it is not the area I would even look. Then the instructions show the chart that is printed with the form, with nothing showing the $1400. So as I said, it is the IRS obviously that sucks in their information and making it obvious what is going on, and TT follows suit.
Thank you for taking the time to show me where I missed the Blue Hyperlink in the Step by Step area.
The rest of the statement I could do without. I am not offended with the "responses". I am offended with the wisecrack, snitty, patronizing remarks within the replies. I've listed where you are being that way by commenting in my own snarky way at your quotes to me and the final words telling me that is " really nit picking on my part IMHO".
Well IMHO, you did not have to respond with Your HO. I am not asking for Your HO. I am asking for where within the program the information is and originally if I had to file PAGE 4 with my printed return which seemed ridiculous but I did not want to have a problem with the IRS.
I did not need this merry go round of replies with snarky HO's on the part of the people paid to respond to questions that really no one should have since we should all just let the program do what it does "you use a program to compute your return so let it do it's job".
Everyone - just be stupid and let this program do everything for you. Don't think for yourselves, why else are you using this program. The program is in charge. It is not a tool for you to use to make your life easier, it is there to control your life - just let it do its job. No one needs to understand Math anymore, just let the program do the computations - you don't need to know how the math works or ensure the numbers/math are correct - it's all good, let the program compute and do it's job.
I know how to calculate every aspect of my return and I can actually do Math without a calculator - wow, old fashioned. But I will never just let a Program compute and do it's job without totally understanding what it is computing and where all my numbers are before signing my name to it. Anyone that does it a moron IMHO!!
You don't have to come back and respond again. I have all the answers I need on this subject, thank you very much for the assistance given that gave me a few of the answers I requested.
People come onto this community when they have problems. They want someone that knows the program or has access to the people that can answer to help. They don't need the additional stress of having to be demeaned for the question they ask and Why they may be asking it. I've read other questions by other people within this community and I know I am not the only one frustrated with replies given.
