Deductions & credits
It depends. Medical and dental expenses can be deducted if the taxpayer itemizes deductions, and the total amount is over 7.5% of the taxpayers Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). If the adult diapers (incontinence supplies) were purchased to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental disability or illness the expense is deductible. You may want to get a note from the doctor with the diagnosis and statement that the adult diapers are medically necessary to keep with your tax records if the IRS questions the expense.
Please review the IRS link, Publication 502 (2022), Medical and Dental Expenses and the TurboTax article Are Medical Expenses Tax Deductible? for additional information.
