While we recommend using the interview screens in TurboTax for accuracy and completeness of your entries, you may access forms directly when using TurboTax for desktop using Forms Mode:
- Open your return and click on Forms at the right side of the TurboTax header.
- Scroll through the list of forms on the left to be sure Form 4797 has not already been added to your return.
If not, or if you need another copy, click the "Open Form" icon at the top of the forms list. - Type in "4797" in the search box then highlight the line and description that applies to your situation.
- Click Open Form to open it in the large window.
- You may enter information into any yellow box as long as the font stays blue.
- If any box/font turns red, click the Errors icon above the list of forms to open a popup below the form that displays any errors on the form.
- Note that values in green were imported from your prior year return. Values in black are calculated or linked to another form and cannot be changed.
- If you override any calculated/linked values, or continue with form errors, the return cannot be e-filed and the TurboTax Guarantee no longer applies.
- You may Print, Delete, or Close a form using the buttons at the bottom of the form.
- When you are finished, click Step-by-Step in the header to return to the main screens.
- Save your return before you exit the program.
