Deductions & credits

Since your RV is your home, you are still qualified to claim the interest paid on your loan as mortgage interest even without a Form 1098 from the credit union.  You should have some sort of statement from the credit union showing the total interest paid for the year.  If you do not have that information, they should be able to provide that for you.

In addition to the interest paid for the year, you will also need the outstanding balance on the loan at the beginning of the year, and the date the loan started.

Use the following steps to go to the mortgage interest section of your return to enter your information:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “mortgage interest” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to mortgage interest
  • Click on the blue “Jump to mortgage interest” link
