529k distribution and tax deduction
Let’s say I have 25k in a 529k for my child and their college tuition is $75k
and I plan to use $25k to pay towards the college tuition and out of pocket for the remaining $50k
How do I show that the 529k withdrawal went towards school when I have to pay a higher amount than the 529k balance
i do not want the 529k distribution to be made directly to the school but instead paid to me or my child and then paid by me to the college
i am just curious how you show on your taxes that what u withdrew from the 529k was applied towards tuition when you are also paying out of pocket
Do I make two separate payments to the school? One for the exact amount of the 529k and then another for the remaining balance?
hope what I was asking made sense and didn’t confuse anyone
thanks in advance
