I had two dependent children (under 18) from Jan through the end of July. I provided 100% of their financial support during this time. In October, parental rights were surrendered at which time they are no longer legally my children. Since I supported them for 7 months of the year, it's my understanding that I can claim them as dependents. Is this a correct understanding of the tax law?
